So my van never ceases to throw issues at me and my autogearbox leak has left me low on ATF. I filled it up in autumn with ATF DEXRON II D last year and I've been topping up with that, but I`m reading everywhere that Dexron is what I should be using. I've just phoned the VW main dealer and they can´t source Dexron anymore so is ATF DEXRON II D a safe alternative or do I really need to source the original?
It was running fine on the other stuff but now there´s a clunking sound when changing from 2nd into 1st and from N into D or P, which is due to the ATF running low again.

Vw were selling their own ATF not long ago.Try your local van centre. As the car places will tend to fob you off. With the old "Its no longer available" routine. Its worth changing the strainer if your doing an ATF change.Brickwerks sell them.Click me

Dexron II, Dexron III and Dexron VI are evolutions of Dexron ATF and are backwards compatible.
