My crossbar has a stud in the middle to hold the muffler shield.

I've always felt the american term is better. I think I got it off one of my old mates who's had VW long before me, he spent a few years over there and picked up some of their language.

are you saying you actually noticed a difference in vibration with 4 front 2 rear? What kind of vibrattion, RPM or Speed specific?

same angles I get almost, 2 in rear, 4 in front. I tried 2 rear 2 front, made no difference. but my vibes are RPM not speed related.

If you run a line between both flanges, it will give a good idea of what the angles are. The aim is to make them both pointy downy, about the same, and between about 3 and 5 degrees. That's my take, other arrangements may work, but straight line /no displacement angle, generally doesn't work well with cardans.
