Gear Box Problem

Post by 'GHOSTWHEEL' »

Hi,
Having problems with my 5 speed box 1.9DG. Although Its not major and I can live with it! I don't want to cause damage to the box if its a major problem. Basically selecting first gear is stiff. And the first time i select 2nd gear when i drive of ever morning it crunches into gear (which is a bit embarrassing as im selecting/crunching into second right outside my neighbours house who has a slammed early bay  ). Selects second fine after the first initial second gear change... Very odd. Any help suggestions would be appreciated.

Andy :D

possibly worn pinion bearing, I'd change the oil and see what the plug says, but then that's what I always say :rofl

I found that selecting and deselecting second a couple of times before setting off minimized the second gear crunch on the first drive of the day.

Will try that later. Would like to stop it completely though

It is a well known 'feature' on these vans - you will get used to it. :)

Just tried that it worked :ok . Come to think of it now I seem to remember doing similar with an old beetle I had.
