A lovely 2 days in Dorset

Post by matt brighton »

Hi

Thanks to a contributors comment I was able to get in to a campsite nr Sandbanks beach.

Beacon Hill Touring Site - its got "mixed" reviews on uk campsite (chavs - dirty toilets - none of the good neighbour rules enforced) .... so was a bit wary having read those after booking but decided as just one night would risk it.

Absolutely fine and no problems.

Arrived about 12:30pm After setting up the awning and new inner tent we visited sandbanks beach on the afternoon 1st day - cheated doing dinner by having pizza express and a walk round the nicer parts of poole quayside area.

Next day off to Lulworth cove - morning on the beach there - then walked over to Durdle Door beach and back along the beach way to Lulworth.

Glorious weather - and a lovely start to the yr..

We love that area.
Did some cool extreme snorkelling' in 'stair hole'
there's some great snorkelling' to be had in man o war cove. That's the cove in your photo.
The sea gets really clear and the fish are dead easy to spot.
You can also hire kayaks from lulworth and paddle round.
Great. Can't wait to go back.

Thanks for your comments fairwinds and southern sparky,

We had a great family time away ... being able to enjoy the best of the weather , glorious countryside and beaches just 2 1/2 hrs from home only for the cost of diesel and camping fee for 1 night (+ a pizza express) was a bargain,

Heres hoping for more of the same

I have even managed to negotiate a dads long weekend away with some friends in the not too distant future - lots of belly boarding and scoff/drinks at polzeath,

just waiting for another spell of decent weather during term time and we are off !

Regards

We have been to Beacon Hill several times now and introduced my dad and many other friends to it aswell - and is one of the familys favourite getaways. If you get :D good weather there, the pool is great (although freezing cold) but a great site for fishing, exploring and the kids just love it as it has some nice play areas and is safe enough for the older ones to ride bikes. Toilet blocks nice and clean and good showers. It even has a small bar and a take away breakfast place (always good for the morning you are packing up to grab a bacon buttie rather than cook!!) .Seems friendly and would recommend it every time. Poole Quay is lovely for a wander with some nice ye olde pubs and great for fish and chips on the harbour front! :D
