The haynes manual says its 15mm lower than that filler...all seem silly to me but i want to make sure before draining a bit out
if not necessary?

There are a few things 'we' the enthusiasts know and have real experience of, compared to the manual.
The answer is, fill on a flat surface, until the oil starts to run out the bung hole.
75W90 semi synthetic GL4/GL5 (must say GL4 somewhere)
Drain and refill if you are unsure of refill history.
Include gear oil changes to service schedule (every 3-4 years 30,000 miles whichever comes sooner)
