headlights

Post by cascais »

if any one can help......ive got an american vanagon which im getting ready to register here.i need an mot done first and the prob i have is the front headlights.my van is lhd so the lights wont pass, but someone told me as its american there lights might be ok for our roads, also the lights are sealed units so when the bulbs go you cant change them.they dont have a side light bulb ,as the indicators were the side lights,so i have disconected them and now they just flash.do they test the side lights on a mot,ive got the front lights to come on when i put the side lights on instead of the indicators, but there not very bright.ive been looking for a set of lights uk spec.mine are round.on ebay and other sites but no luck as yet,a new set fromvw heritage are £80,but they have the seperate bulb as a side light and ive only got electrics for a single bulb on my van. many thanks.

sounds like you need some wiring.

without knowing us spec

but for uk spec you need 2 side lamps(front position lamps) white or amber if in an amber lamp unit

2 dipped headlamps and 2 main beam headlamps

it may be easier to fit the front loom from a uk van with all the correct connectors

lots of uk spec headlamps about , i should even have a couple.
its possible you could bodge the wiring and many do , but new loom is quite easy to fit!
