water problem

Post by hunepromo »

Hello,
I have a Type 25 2.1i DJ 1990 panel van. I brought it a couple of months ago and thought it would be a good idea to remove the main hoses cooling hoses and flush the water system and refill it with the recommended G12 anti freeze as I was told that the anti freeze is very important in T25's. anyway, I wish I had never bothered!!! basically I have a problem with leaks now!!!
one of the main problems is after I have been driving it and stop and turn the engine off. hot water starts pissing out of the expansion tank?!?!? its as if the tank is back filling or some thing?!?!? It only happens when I turn the engine off though?!!?
HELP!

yes the water systems are 'interesting' on the rear engined vans.
You say our of th eexpansion tank, but there is no outlet!, unless it is cracked or the cap is loose broken.
When hot the coolnat should expand to the top up tank , then be sucked back when cool. the expansion tank is always full.

I would suggest the first job is to ensure you bled it correctly as the radiator top is higher than the rest of the sustem and an be difficult. Does the heater get hot, are there airlocks?.
If it as ok before you did anything it should be ok again. But overheating will kill the heads/gaskets , not sure how you have in a Dj but not long in a JX.
Have you details of bleeding?, been aired ( bad pun) on here many times
Believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see.
