Starter Earth Strap

Hi All

1985 1.9 petrol. watercooled I am having some starting problems. New battery, starter been checked and refurbished. However I cant seem to see the starter to transmission earth strap. There I can see wire from battery to starter, starter to alternator and exciter from solanoid. Can anyone point me as to where the earth strap should be please.

Do you mean the earth strap at the front of the gearbox?

Its a copper braided wire about 1/2" wide, bolted on at each end. Some sandpaper on all the contacts can sometimes work wonders. Mine was too far gone so had to buy a new one.

Cant hurt to have a second gearbox strap from a different point on the gearbox. It gets a lot of weather so go for the enclosed plastic sleeve type if you replace rather than the exposed braided.
