after a spell away in the bodyshop noticed the front blower stopped working..found a blown fuse but all i'm getting ia a sound that it might just be trying but not moving.......how the hell do you get at it??

A new blower motor is the best £60 you'll spend (I've done 2 this year - different vans)

Get one and tackle it now before the Summer sets in, give yourself all weekend to allow for neverdonethisbeforeitis It's not that bad a job, honestly.

Doing the job in the damp and cold just makes things worse. I like to be able to feel my fingertips when working

You can free off the motor without stripping everything out. Just hunting for link...

You'll need to tease it into starting through same hole but once freed off it should go. May just be temporary though. As stated, new motor is invariably the best solution. Its just seized up from sitting around doing nothing.

The last one I did had melted the housing that carries the motor brushes, I think caused by the brushes themselves having stuck in their slots and then overheating as they started to arc on the armature. I thought it was siezed at first but on closer inspection it was bin material.
The heater enclosure was also melted next to the resistance windings (too many years always on low speeds)

Get the motors I fit from Gsf. decent quality, or never had a problem to date. Same as fitted to mk1 golfs and from memory only cost about £30. Take about 2-3 hours to do if youy know what your doing but the dash comes out real easy so don't be put off.
