I am having problems with my battery draining over about a week despite daily use so I have been looking at old post and of course the wiki.
In the wiki it states:
'Disconnect the negative terminal from battery, join (12v bulb and holder from Maplins £1.90) test light between battery and terminal (end of cable), if you have a light showing, it means you have a drain. Remove each fuse in the fuse box one by one till the light goes out, this tells you which circuit the problem is on. it is then a case of finding the fault on that circuit'
I think I am being a total idiot here but I have not a a clue about most things electrical/mechanical so please bear with an idiot

So, I disconnect the earth terminal and I am left with a +ve battery terminal connected to the +ve (red) wire, a bare battery -ve terminal, the earth strap connected to the chassis under the drivers seat and the bare terminal end that would connect to the -ve battery terminal.
to test the battery for drain I connect one end of my 12v light to the:
+ve terminal/battery, and the other end to the:
1. -ve battery terminal
or
2. the end of the earth strap that is connected to the chassis?
or
the 12v light between the -ve battery terminal and the end of the -ve cable/earth strap
again, apologies for the probable VERY simple question

thanks in advance,
Chris
