heater motor reversed (i think)

Post by fodtommo »

Last week I helped my freind fa new blower motor to his van. It came from JK and had a different connector block to the one in the van and differen coloured wires, so we chopped the wires and joined them. It went like the clappers (much better than mine). Put it all back together, but afterwards, couldnt help thinking it was not as powerful as mine out of the vents, and mine is squeaky and knackered.

A few days later a little light bulb popped up and I thought its feeble air flow is probably because we connected the wires the wrong way round and the motors going backwards... schoolboy i know but it had been a long day...

Before the inconing feed to the motor there was a coiled copper thingy inside the unit - havnt bothered to find out what this is??

My question is can i simply reverse the wires outside the heater unit or will it affect the coppper coily thing....?

Thanks in advance!

the copper coily thing as you call it is a resistor, and is the reason the fan has more than one speed....
i think it wont care about the polarity, so swapping the feed wires around shouldnt affect it, but make sure you undeestand the voltage and where the resistor is connected.
