Before I start on my van do you need to do the first coat as soon as the prep work is finished or can it wait a couple of weeks?

yes you can do after a couple of weeks but if you go through to bare metal you'll just create a rust magnet.

Remember to give it a thorough wash and copious rinse several hours ahead of the paint though. Cheap washing up liquid best bet - no wax

I'm sure this has probably been asked before so please forgive me if it has. I've just had a few new panels fitted. Do I need to sand back the grey coating on these and prime before rustoleuming or do I just flat back and go for it?

Just flatten and go for it. Rustoleum can be used on bare metal.

Just thought I'd re-iterate that painting a whole van in a day is a tiring task (obviously not the prep too). I did it last year and was cream crackered by the end and the last panel I did wasn't quite as good as the first. I will be doing it piecemeal this time.

eg, Both cab doors and tailgate, rear valance and front, offside, nearside with slider.

Ok pop pickers, i rollered the van last year, and am now treating her to another touch up now what i want to know is how much do i need to flatten back between coats, i seem to keep going through the paint each time i flatten, am i just needing to take high spots off before next coat or flatten back so as it completely smoothed out, because my feeling is if i do that i will rubbing all the paint off and then i dont feel like i,m getting anywhere fast. any ideas chaps.. P.S I,m useing 400 grit

Done. Now i havent worked on a vehicle body for years, what filler type would you recommend?
