slotted alternator nut

Post by Si_P »

Ok the alternator has died a replacement bought.

A simple job to swap over right!

Apparently not my adjuster arm nut (between the alternator and the arm) is a) hugely corroded and immovable and b) v strange looking it appears to be horizontally slotted.

My question is this: Is this nut supposed to be special? My maintenance manual (the diesel models one from just kampers) does not suggest that it is.

If the answer is yes how do I get it off?

no it should be just a standard bolt. Usual corroded nut removal tricks apply

cheers will give those a try. On closer inspection I think the slits were cut once the previous owner had rounded off the nut.

Very helpful....
