fuel leak? Or not?

Post by docklad »

haven't had a fuel gauge for 12m. usually put 30 quid in. Put 40quid yesterday. Found a fair bit on road after a couple of hours. Overflow pipes missing, replaced but still fuel on floor this morning after short drive. Nothing before i drove but half litre after. Same thing happened 6months ago, i put it down tyo too much fuel. It soon stopped after about 30 miles. the fuel is just under the wheel arch behind the nearside. Why would this happen? over to yooo's laaa

Soon after getting my Westy, I filled the tank right up for the first time and left a couple of litres on the floor of the petrol station, it turned out that a plastic union on the breather pipe that connects the fuel tank to the 2 expansion tanks( one under each wheel arch) was cracked. Ended up having tank removed and all grommets, gaskets, unions and breather pipes replaced.

No more leaks :D

With the wheel off you can get at and remove the the 2 Y pieces and the grommets, no need to drop tank, also if its jacked up you can reach from the front over the steering rack, well I can with skinny arms and longggggggggggg fingers :rofl

If you succeed then fit the rubber grommets back and smear some vaseline in the hole then the plaggy bits pop straight in no probs , just done one over the weekend..

I had a similar prob to this turned out to be a rusted pin hole in the sender unit, when driving it was coming out on top of the tank so when the van was stopped it looked like it was coming out. Had to remove the tank though, good luck :ok
