Hi,
I'm soon to acquire a spare engine, a working 2.1 DJ as a longblock with clutch, exhaust and all ancillaries probably still attached. By the time I get it it'll have been removed from the donor and sat in a garage for a couple of weeks. The engine may sit for months until I get around to a rebuild. I have a shed which does not leak but does get some air moisture inside as fabrics stored there have gained mould over the winter.
How can I store it so it'll not go rusty inside? I've thought about covering in oily rags and wrapping in plastic. Is that a good idea?
You thoughts and experiences please.

Take the plugs out, squirt a bit of oil in each barrel.
Wind it over a couple of times, put the plugs back in.
Blank off all openings.
Every 1/4 year take the plugs out, a small squirt of all again and turn over.
Ideally engines should be stored with clean oil rather than used oil.
Spray the external surfaces with a light oil to keep the corrosion to a minimum.
Store in a cool, dry place.

I used to empty mine (old bike engines) and fill them to the brim with paraffin
