T25 struggles to start in warm weather!!

Post by bonzo45 »

Hi - My 1988 T25 is having problems starting when the weather is warm or when the engine is warm also......thought it was the starter at first but it starts perfectly in the morning when it's cold!! Anyone else experienced these problems and how did you solve it?? Is it something to do with the fuel line getting affected by the heat?
I'd really like to get this fixed ahead of the summer! Any suggestions welcome - Thank You!!

hi, you will have to give us a little bit more to go on......

is it just that it turns over very slowly, as if the battery is flat.
is it that it spins fastly enough but wont fire?

it could be the timing too far advanced
it maybe the starter bushing
could be the solenoid
maybe fuel pump
might be the glow plugs
could be the filter or water trap

a more detailed description, including what engine, fuel and how it happens, or not may give us a bit of hope of helping you

Hi Steve
Thanks for your reply - ok, this is the best way to describe it, as you guessed - it turns over slowly, like the battery is flat. 9 times out of 10 it eventually starts, but yesterday it didn't (Had to jump it eventually as we ran the battery down trying to start it)...and yet today, and other days / nights when it is cooler, it fires up first time as it should!
A friend suggested it may be the fuel filter.......

Hope this helps you help me!
Cheers
Andy

More likely that the starter motor connections and the earth connection on the gearbox nose need a good clean till they are bright and tightly fit the terminals

As an aside is your starter battery old? (like over five years)

Is the earth strap from the battery a good sound connection, with tight terminals ... clean it anyway.

is it the correct battery, UK code 065 or UK code 096?

hi there.....

ill have to assume its a petrol engine ...... and go with that.....

all of what Kev said, clean battery terminals ( both battery end and where they earth connects to van body)
and gearbox nose mounting, again both ends, to bare metal.
Starter motor connections, also, clean up and retighten, adding a little light grease

after checking battery - although i doubt its the battery unless the alternator is iffy, cos batterys tend to play up when cold, not hot.

next port of call will be timing - too advanced and it will give the exact symptoms you describe.

doubt its fuel, that wouldnt make it turn over slow.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

If its a derv, apart from the battery and starter bits, i have no idea........
