Trip to Paris & Disneyland

Post by Stefvan »

Just wanted to write a quick review of our trip to Paris and Eurodisney. We stayed in Paris at the campsite in the Bois de Boulogne. The campsite was quite crowded, with little green space, but was a great base to explore Paris, and the facilities were good, small shop for fresh bread & croissants, nice hot clean showers, and it was all nice and secure. I got hold of a cycle map of Paris http://www.sports-sante.com/index.php/c ... es-a-parisand we (two children 6 and 9) all took our bikes, helmets, & hi viz jackets. I also took my Nokia Sat nav which did the job well ! Heading through the Bois de Boulogne, which is amazing, very bike friendly, pretty flat, and very green and lovely, we headed for Porte de la Muette and on towards the Palais de Chaillot which gives you a spectacular view of the Eiffel Tower and Paris. Took about 20-25 minutes from the campsite. You can then either head on down to the tower or head down the bus lanes (Avenue de President Wilson) towards the north Bank and the Tuileries, where there are great dedicated bike lanes on the North Bank to take you down to the Louvre, the Pont Neuf and Notre Dame and beyond. The weather was fantastic, it wasn't madly crowded, and we had a great time. I just missed out on the "Paris Rando Velo" which happens every Friday Night, from 10pm till 1 AM, a mad free tour of the sights with 100 odd other cyclists http://www.parisrandovelo.com/?page=accueil there's also a family tour at 11AM on the third Sunday of each month. From Paris we headed on out to a campsite called Les jablines http://www.camping-jablines.com/gb.htmlwhich is a 15 minute bus journey from Eurodisney, the bus tickets cost us 7 Euros each way, although I think under 5's go free. The campsite was really very nice, clean, nice big pitches, ours had a lovely view of the huge lake. The campsite is set in a municipal outdoor sports area, there are tennis courts, a water-ski-ing tow line, sailboats, canoes etc, I am sure in Summer it would get pretty busy at weekends but at Easter it was nice and quiet, there are two nice sandy beaches on the lake, and we really enjoyed the whole place, There is a choice of caravan type pitches, with water & electric, or grassy ones for cars and tents. I would say you can do Disney in two days, although we stayed for 3, other people who were coming back a second or third time were staying for a longer period at the campsite and staggering their visits to Disney, which seemed like a good idea. It can be pretty overwhelming. It is also possible to visit Paris from Les Jablines.. if you don't want to do bikes.. a bus ride to Eurodisney and then the fast train to Paris. (other people were doing that.. their biggest complaint was that it was a nightmare pushing pushchairs and/or children throught the Metro...)

:ok

Any pictures to share??

First time I seen a review of the camp-site in Paris - sounds OK (not green and grassy) - like the idea of the "Paris Rando Velo"
