Solar Panel wiring on Westie Poptop

Post by ronsrecord »

Can any of you lads and lassies tell me how you've routed the wiring for a solar panel on a poptop??

My LB is in the cupboard next to the water tank (ABS unit being under the drivers seat).

Do you take it through the roof of the poptop at the back end?

My panel is mounted to the roof with stainless steel brackets and rubber compression nuts. The wiring goes into the left side vent and through the vans' panel behind the vent. I used to rubber grommets to protect the wiring and after the wires were in place I used some RTC gasket sealant around the wires on the inside of the van. On the outside, I used some white silicon around the wires. From the inside of the van the wires are routed into the closet and to the charge controller mounted on the outside of the closet. From the CC the wires are routed to my LB's under the sink and the drivers' seat. Hope the pics help?....................Tim

The panel is always plugged in and I also have a battery maintainer connected fulltime for when shore power is available.
