Rear arch repair

Post by nicktennear »

Hello all. A few weeks ago the back of the van lost in a fight with an Asda artic (not admitting liability) and the rear arch got crunched.

It's not that clean and looks chewed. The question is should I try and use filler on this or get a new panel put on? Any ideas how much getting a panel put on might cost?

It was going to get new paint anyway so no worries there.
Thanks all.

Looks like its already got a load of filler in it to be honest as all the seams are missing.
A new arch will cost about £35 but the panel above will likely be rotten too and the inner arch etc. :(

No idea about getting someone to do the work as i've always done my own bodywork (don't trust anyone else working on my VWs) but you could be looking at a good day or two labour, plus paint etc.

The seams are all full of paint, factory white, yellow, black and then two sorts of red. There's a bit of rust on the inner but no rot, it's actually a pretty sound body until now. :ok

Full new rear quarter panel from Schofields is £47 then I would reckon around a days labour if they are any good, maybe £100 or so.

Thing is welding work always opens a whole new can of worms and one job leads to another.

Getting the exact job done on mine next week, take a look at how mine looks right now: (password = jonnyb)
