oil Seal ?
Hi Guys, i was so chuffed to get my basket case running after 2yrs, eventually sounding really good but has developed a rather bad oil leak, i´ve not took the motor back out yet but appears to be the crank seal behind the flywheel, it ran for an hour before pi**ing oil on the floor, i bought the gasket set from JK & all seemed ok when i assembled , has anyone come accross faulty seals?

And the engine type is?
Just had a bad oil leak on mine (wasserboxer flat 4) it looked like the crank seal but turned out to be the oil pressure switch (slightly lower down and to the left underneath the coolant pipe)

sorry, mines a water boxer too, oil switches look ok, actually i´ve just replaced them, & the oil is coming out of the bellhousing, & i can see oil on the back of the fly wheel, "pooh" happens, wish it was as simple as an oil switch lolCalifornia Dreamin wrote:And the engine type is?

I'll read the piggin thread properly next time..
'behind the flywheel'
Well it's all very straight forward behind there, the only two things I can think of are:
The seal tensioning spring (I'm presuming it has one) has come adrift.
That there is too much enfloat in the crankshaft allowing the crank to move excessively pushing out the seal.

Re: oil Seal ?
Did you replace the o-ring that fits inside the flywheel as well? O-ring seals between crankshaft and flywheel, oil seal between flywheel and crankcase.

Re: oil Seal ?
Sounds like a failed front oil seal to me.

As above, also the camshaft plug and oil gallery plugs can leak and it is not unknown for the crankcase to crack behind the flywheel.
