Yorkshire- East Coast

Post by meggles »

Anyone going this week? I'm taking two grandsons for a night or two. Not sure where yet. Probs Whitby area (Robin Hoods Bay as a last resort). Might even do Filey area.

I love Filey. It is like going to a time of innocence. The sea is cold but the ale is good and I really rate the fish & chips too. Have a good time.

I just got back from Bridlington (never again). Spent last night in a great sleepy spot on Spurn Point.

Bridlington itself not that great. Lots of nice places around there. Why didn't you ask for advice before going? Could have told you about Thornwick Bay (not the expensive camp site) and Danes Dyke. Suppose it's what you want from a camp really. Sorry you didn't enjoy it.

Don't get me wrong - we loved it, had a great time. I just wouldn't go back, I think its a "go there once to see it and not go back type of place". We only had Friday and this morning there as had to be back home this afternoon.

We went to Sewerby Hall on Friday morning which was great, got the land train into Bridlington and met a friend there. Kids had a great time in the arcades while I marvelled at the chavs. Had the funniest experience of my life when some crazy lady jumped on the train going back to Sewerby with a penguin under her arm that she'd found on the beach. She said it must have escaped from Sewerby and she was taking it back. It was a guillemot not a penguin. :rofl

Then went over to Spurn Point which was lovely, had a nice night there and a bit more of a walk round it this morning before heading home.

But if you know of any good places nearby Meggles then I'd love some details as we'll probably head back to that area later on in the year. :ok

I'll get mi "flat" thinkin' cap on whilst I'm walking mi whippet! Depends on what you like really. Plenty of chavs all the way up that coastline. Lot's of architecture to gaze at, lot's of amusement arcades, the John Bull rock factory........

Looks good that site, and not a bad price either. Might have a look myself.

Wold Farm looks lovely. Will definetly have to check that out - I'd like to go to Bempton in a bit when the puffins are about. Would also like to go to Flamborough Lighthouse on one of their open days. Ian - is the walk along the cliff top from the campsite in the RSPB nature reserve - just wondering if I'd have to leave the dog at home?

I think after our morning at Bridlington I'm maxed out on arcades and chavs - not really my idea of fun. Fine as an occassional treat for Tasha but I try and avoid it all.

Binka... The footpath from wold farm leads to the cliff tops then you can either turn left to Bempton or right to Flamborough. Im guessing you would walk into the nature reserve turning left.
I spent most of my summer school holidays in Flamborough, my grand parents lived there....Happy times, North landing, South landing, the new and old lighthouses etc etc...A great place. And if you go in any of the pubs, its like stepping back into the 70's
Fall to sleep at wold farm watching the lighthouse flash every minute or so....
