I think the term is 'spares or repair' !! Its got a knackered engine, a knackered gearbox and a knackered VC. You'll be trailering it home, the paint is falling off it .... He states that you get a lot of bang for your buck but I for one fail to see anything other than an old camper .......

Ignore it ......... at £5k starting price, the seller is in cloud kookoo land !!

"Worth a punt?"
Oof harsh words! I am the guy with the beige for £5k..
I'm guessing you all know a bit more than me about the value of syncro's!
Look, input on how much you think it's worth would be welcome! I am trying to sell it!
I have stated everything that's wrong with it! I mean everything!! No glossing over to get a sale!
You do however seem to be overlooking the complete Audi 2.2 5 cylinder beast engine conversion with all the bits!?? Which is included in the sale. This ain't cheap!!!
Yup gearbox is scuppered but still worth bucks,
Yup engine is less than ideal but all the conversion bits still worth bucks.
I dunno, am I so far off the Mark?
Paint job is damn good by the way, just bubbling at the bottom!
Come on throw me a bone here! All I wanted was sharks with laser beams on their noses!!

Audi 2.2 5 cylinder beast engine conversion with all the bits
Not really a viable conversion, your better off selling that seperate.
Gearbox probably not worth much or anything with a hole in it, something has punched that out?
your probably looking at a grand for new engine, fitted.
Grand minimum for gearbox rebuild plus removal/refitting.
£300 for front diff rebuild plus new VC, plus removal/fitting.
Plus balljoints and all the other bits and pieces will add up to a hell of a lot.
Can appreciate you've spent a lot on it, probably more than your asking for it.
You have to look at as if you were buying a van with no gearbox, engine or front diff, unfortunately it's most likely not worth what you want. You might get lucky, and i hope you do. Personally i'd say with it all working top value would be no more than 8k.
Can you not get it back up and running?

Ok, here's a bone .....

1. Sell the Audi stuff seperately and you might get a few hundred for it. We arent overlooking it by the way !!
2. Get rid of that £5000 start and replace it with a reserve of £2000 and start the bidding at £0.99p. That way you will find out the value of the van!

Cheers lloydy! much appreciated input!
When you say not really a viable conversion, do you mean not possible or just a lot of work?

I know ya gotta chop 8 inch by 2 inch out the boot surround and raise the lid by 100mm, not that hard really if your not too precious, figured since the gearbox needed changed, be better with a petrol box/diesel bellhousing and front diff to suit? this was the advice from syncrospares anyhoo. Maybe your right, prob not the ideal conversion, sure tdi all the way, but kaching, £££££!!!
140bhpWith the five cylinders, definately gonna handle the weight of the syncro no worries. Aslong as your not mental on the throttle gearbox should live a long and prosperous life..
I priced a new gearbox second hand from syncrospares at£650 and upwards, front diff about £350, vc £650, all exchange items. although the front diff is good on mine so maybe just swops?

Guess I would do all fitting refitting myself so never really factored that in to cost?
Man o man I would love to do this baby up, breaks my heart to even to put her up for sale! but needs must, aint got no bucks to spare.

pads, shoes, ball joints, £150 ish syncrospares, CV joint which still works but for the future, £136 syncrospares
So I figured £1500 ish and she is up and running and a beast at that. Even £2k for arguments sake. Hell even £3k with super duper new engine, £5k still sits there as alright? am I wrang or am i a meringue?

All subjective at the end of the day!

What say you?

strangely the figure i had in my head was the same as syncropaddy said, 2k.
thing is all the prices you've quoted are second hand parts, which most people won't want. For 8k you can get a very nice syncro with all reconditioned/refurbed running gear. for 5k i could go out and buy a running/working van, and that is your problem.
