Oil leak!! "DIPSTICK"

Post by DUSTY100 »

Hi,
I've noticed some oil that has leaked under the engine, after inspecting the engine area there seems to be a lot of oil near the fan belt dierctly under the dipstick which has some oil on it, being flicked up be the fan belt? or dripped from the dipstick, which sticks out about 2mm and does not click shut.
Could it be the the dipstick which is leaking?
Cannot see any leaks anywhere.
Please advise anyone

is the rubber seal still in place?
is it secured properly to the Alternator support bracket?
Is it the proper dipstick?

is it a petrol or diesel

Hi,
Yes it is secured to the alternator, no it has no seal in the dipstick just a ridge where one should be, was wondering if it should have one there.
do you think that could be it?

Ah...
in the petrol version is a spring clip.
I can't make out if there's one on a diesel from the Vagcat picture

does the stick go down the filler tube?
As it looks like there's something to clip it in the filler cap.... at a guess

Hi,
On close inspection it does seem like there is a small rubber seal on the end of the dipstick which is missing!!
the dipstick goes into a long pipe which enters the engine lower down.

No, not down the filler tube - it's separate. Mine has an O-ring on the plastic 'bung'.

That is what must be missing an "O" ring on the bung!
Hope that is the problem as I'm going to a machanic tomorrow to get another dipstick.
Thanks
