torque setting on a rear hub nut ? ? ?
hi there
and sorry to be a pain
torque setting on a rear hub nut ?
looked on wiki but cart see it on there but someone may point it out to me or just tell me the info i'm looking for
it say in the haynes that you torque the nut up too 350 nm is this right ?
the thing is i just got some new bearing and fitted them in my van and when i checked for play there was still a bit there and that was up to 350 and when i called just camper and told them there was a bit off play still they said they had never had anyone call about them before but anyway sent it down for test and it past
i know on a mot they will give you so much play on a wheel but to me it felt like i was cutting close anyway a hour or two later just kamper called me back up and told me that its ment to be torque up too 500nm and a lot of ppl just do this with a big bar of some sort
anyway what i'm trying to ask you here is 500nm right just same like a hell of a lot for a hub nut ?

From the wiki (yes it is in there!):
Rear hub nut on all T25's - 500 N-m (360 lb-ft) then next split-pin hole.
Yes, it does seem a lot!

rear wheels bearings on these do have a small amount of inbuilt play to allow them to expand when hot! The tester will have that on his print out for the MoT!

Not being a mountain gorilla I'd go with Bentley, 350 Nm and move it on a bit if needed to get the split pin in.

My Bentley says 500 Nm or 360 ft/lb.
They just change it on every reprint!

That because there are two different torques. for early models with six slotted nut 350Nm, later models with 10 slotted nut 500Nm.

Got it! Early axle nut has 6 slots in crown, later nut is bigger and has 10 slots. That would explain it.
