Just thought I would share a big mistake that newbie syncro folk could benefit from.
I was travelling down from Newcastle to Chester in preparation for my interior re-build. A blown front left tyre cause me to pull over and change to my spare wheel.
My spare wheel was a 205 instead of a 185. I let down the air to try and compensate the diameter difference (at the time, I didn't know why that was important).
Well after 40 miles, my van starting pulling to the right at 55mph, then all of a sudden, an expensive loud noise and then my steering went light again. It was 10pm and I had been in work for 12 hours

I gave Steve at gassure a call, he was really friendly and said I was best speaking to Aiden, so I gave him a call and he said to look at removing prop shaft and run it up to him, if need be. So with my extremely limited knowledge, I though I would have a look under the van and see how difficult removing the prop would be. Then I noticed the CV joint had snapped and all the bearings were out and it looked to be my problem. So I have managed to get hold of a front cv joint and I'm hoping this is my only problem.
I was intending on fitting it myself but I don't want to mess something like this up, especially because it is linked to the more expensive pieces in the syncro.
I'm planning on taking over to a friends garage where he will do the job done. Is there anything unique about this I need to mention?
So, my first lesson in syncro ownership. Check the spare wheel is the right size and read up a bit more on VC's!
