yes ..as it leans out (as the choke comes off) the revs will rise if you have an inlet air leak the revs will rise even higher.
It's like putting your foot on the accelerator.

Right ok thanks. But the only place i can think there is a leak is in the ducking now as i've replaced all the hose! How can i test for leaks? Is there a spray of some sort or a home remedy?

Thanks

Are all the gaskets good?
has the servo hose been tested?
does the choke pull down unit leak?

you can spray carb cleaner over the gaskets/joints and see if the engine note changes

where's the ducking...?

Lol the ducking is when parts come off my van! Which pipe is the servo one? And dont think the choke pull down unit is leaking as the choke works ok (i think) Will test further with carb cleaner tomorrow.

the servo hose comes off the inlet manifold and goes to the bulkhead, it's braided, and you can't tell if it leaks until you fill it with water, I know that from experience :D
... The big one under the carb and the inlet gaskets at the head have you changed them too are they OK?

the pull down works OK?
i.e. it opens the choke flap when you accelerate a cold engine.

Aha that one! mine has some braided hose at either end with a smaller plastic pipe in the middle. Dont forget mine is the one with the missing ducting from the bulkhead to the air filter box! I have replaced the braided parts but not tested it further. The bulkhead servo thing is inaccessable to me as someone has welded a plate underneath thus unabling me to unbolt the cover! I had to remove the light cluster to get at the braided hose part!

I've changed both the gaskets you talked about the one under the carb was practically welded to the carb which was fun removing! I used just about all the parts from the brickwerks repair kit.

I cant believe I didnt think about testing the pulldown unit as you described but will certainly do so tomorrow!

Thanks for everything as always!
