Rotor arm

Post by iowcamper »

Hi

Just buying some bits of brickwerks to give the old girl a service before we start our travels for the year and thought while i was at it i may as well change the rotor arm, dizzy cap and ht leads

the van is up the garage at the mo but wanted to order the bits tonight so i would have them here for the weekend

on birckwerks there are 2 rotor arms one limited the other not, dont have a clue what is fitted at the mo, which is the best to use i assume the limited one is just a safety feature to stop the van over revving??

any advice most welcome

cheers

You are correct. Its a safety feature as described. However, you can fit a stock beetle rotor unless you're a madman that revs the crup out of it. I went to a beetle one myself. Cheaper too.

Hi,

I've fitted a non limited arm, it's simpler, ie less parts to fail and seams to run better. Just keep an eye on your speed in the gears.

Also more widely available. I've tended to replace worn parts with either bug ones or something i've adapted that i can get anywhere. Come to think of it most of my WIKI projects are along those lines. No sense in throwing money at a problem when a little thought often produces a better solution.

i put an unrestricted one on in the end as that was what was already on there - have kept the restricted one though so may swap it over next week - a few people have said they run nicer with the unrestricted any truth in that?? cant see why really ?
