Hey guys!!
I have a DH transmission in my T3 and it was originally a 1.6 Diesel NA. Year 1981.
I have now transplanted a Toyota 3c-te which is an electronic 2.2TD engine. Its churns out around 105BHP and I have also added an intercooler from a Pajero 2.8TD 4M40.
The problem is that the engine maxes out at around 115kms but I want want a higher top speed like 140-150.. the engine has the grunt. I will be running 225/65/R16 wheels so what 3rd and 4th gear ratios should I be looking for? I want a torquey 3rd with good speed since I live in hills and this where I will be driving most. And a tall ratio 4th for highway cruising. Please let me know of suppliers of such gears along with prices.
Cheers!
What 3rd and 4th gear ratios?

Talk to member Aidan. He knows all about longer gears, Not cheap to do though

you are running an Aircooled era box.
get one from a 2.0 petrol Aircooled bus
DK code.
much better gears and the tallest ratios of all boxes OEM (except the AAP, 5 speed 2.1 injection box , but then you would need to change driveshafts/gearlinkage/mounts ect)

I can't get any other box.. this is the only option I have cuz there are none available here.

Re: What 3rd and 4th gear ratios?
aiden dosent have the tooling for the DH box as its an Aircooled(unless hes invested)
the dh /dk boxes are basically bay window boxes (68-79) with different noses/shift rods
if you can get a late bay box perhaps you can swap the noses and shift levers
not sure about gear ratios but the main difference in diff pinion/ ring ratios so to swap would mean total strip/swap.
i have got into the T25/T3 box and repaired the shift forks DIY style but it takes time /patience without the proper kit(not advisable when you have a pro who can do it tho) so i know its possible
i do have a dk box with no 1st /2nd gear , although postage would be high perhaps i could strip the mainshaft/ring and ship that to you if its good once ive stripped it?

Re: What 3rd and 4th gear ratios?
Thanks Billy,
Finding usable VW parts here is next to impossible.
I can strip and swap the parts, I have a very intelligent and experience mechanic here who has been working with such older VWs for over 3 decades now. So installing the bits is not a problem.
I have sent a pm to Aidan about the C&P from a DK, please get in touch with him regarding this.
Cheers!
