Starting problem driving me crazy.........Help!!!!!

Post by Cherryboo »

Hi,
I have a 1600 non turbo diesel and having real problems with starting :(
Its had a new starter and dont know if i now need a new battery or alternator. The connections were loose on the live wire connected to the battery but still having problems starting. Charging the battery dosent seem to help much either.
It turns over ok and does eventually start but takes ages.
Also the glow plug light flashes for a very long time before going out.

HELP !!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks
Cherryboo

Some vehicles vary but what your looking for is a braid (plait) about 6 inches long if you look by the gearbox mount there is usually one round there I can't think where the engine one is on mine I'll look in the morning and post it up.

Just take them off and clean up the connections

The glow plug light shouldn't flash it should be a steady light. Maybe glow plug fuse corroded or relay/glow plug problems?

As mentioned.Check this is intact Click me It lives in the little black box in the engine bay.To the left as you look at the engine. Its usually hidden under the wiring.

it would have been better to say My engine doesn't turn over when I turn the key.
"not starting" confuses the issue with not firing when turning over.

just a thought

So am i confused too as it does turn over but not want to start sometimes, but yesterday just click....and nothing.
The starter was off an old van, so not a new one.
Maybe its the starter and something else wrong too, but its no good as i have to use it everyday
