swapping 1.9 to 2.1

Post by Dragon »

Check out "Broken Head Stud" for full story!!
New thread for advice/support on subsequent issue.
Have stripped both 1.9 DG and 2.1 DJ as far as manifold off and getting fuel lines out of way etc and nearly ready to take both engines out to swap over. 1.9 is from an '84 transporter and 2.1 is from an 'H' plate transporter but I can't confirm these are dates of engines.
My question is around water pumps; they appear to be significantly different (as does the plumbing!)and wondering if I can fit 1.9 pump to 2.1 case? Or indeed 1.9 plumbing to 2.1 pump?
Also, will 2.1 cam have lobe to allow me to fit 1.9 fuel pump?
My apologies if this is simplistic question, but would appreciate the wealth of your experience.
Thanks in advance.

every thing will fit from the 1.9, the water pump is different as it has a take off for the oil cooler but the 1.9 will fit, the oil filter is different for the same reason, just fit the 1.9 assembly take off the blanking plate and fit all the fuel pump gubins. good luck with it and enjoy the extra ponies :ok

you might want to work out how to fit and supply (with coolant )the oil cooler plate at a later date.
