HI everyone,
I couldn't find any info on this problem when I made a search so I thought I would make this post so that others with the same problem can save some time, expense and hassle.
I have had a bit of trouble with my washer pump which was intermittent and then stopped working completely. I initially thought it may have been a poor connection so I tested the voltage on the connector at the pump. It gave a consistent 12v when the switch was operated which led me to changing the pump for a new one. Well it didn't work. Further investigation and fiddling about led me to the switch on the steering column. Although the switch was working well enough to supply 12v to the pump it wasn't passing enough current to drive it. I cleaned the switch contacts with steel wool and this got it working again. WARNING: Be careful to make sure the ignition switch is off otherwise the steel wool may catch on fire!
I hope this helps someone
Kev
