DG engine advice, URGENTLY please. SORTED

Post by meggles »

I know this is probs better in Tech but I need a quick reply and thought this might be better place for quick response.
Now, I have got local garage ordering a DG engine. The engine supplier wants to know if there is a vertical pipe near the bell housing or not. I assume this is because there's an early and a late version! Can anyone please tell me what they are asking. I've looked at my engine and my mates engine and cannot see a vertical pipe anywhere near the bell housing. Although the cooling system differs. His is an A reg, mines an F reg.
Many thanks in advance.

Diagram 1 is 'Late' 1.9
Diagram 2 is 'Early' 1.9
Diagram 3 is 'Late' injection 1.9 & 2.1

Hope this helps mate.

Perhaps they mean the black plastic coolant distribution tower Item 22 on Diagram 1 ?

It's available from Baxter ... http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/shop?page=s ... ory_id=118

Thanks Ian. I've looked at the diagram and the main difference is indeed the black plastic tower. But I would have though this was just a "swap the part over" job. I expected to find a metal hose stub. Anyway, I know this is an early engine so I think I'll work on that and tell them to find out which is the early engine. Unfortunately it's Andrew Page and they are by no means good with the more technical stuff

Yes, I didn't explain myself very well did I Ian! What I meant to say was "Even if the tower was needed it would be easy just to remove from old engine and fit to replacement engine".

unless it is very unusual, it wont have any water pipes anyway, and early and late water systems will fit all dg engines.... and if its a "A" reg, its early anyway.........

Mystery solved!! The difference I had to look out for was the water pump. There is a small stub on the top of the early one. God knows how he got the idea that it was at bell housing end!! Then they said we could just change the pump etc over! They didn't know which one was an early engine, but luckily can get it delivered tomorrow as both were in stock!!! Thanks Mocki, Ian and everyone else who helped.
