Need a new Clutch

Post by sharkjazz »

Evening all, have just got back from a rather ill advised attempt at some off road driving up in the Himalaya. Managed to smash a hole through the oil tank :( (been welded fixed) and did some unknown damage to the clutch trying to get over a steep bit of washed out road. The clutch was smelling really bad afterwards and on the journey back it felt like it was slipping when trying to move off in 1st.

Anyway, the question is, is the clutch for a 1988 LHD Westfalia specific to this type of van, or is it a standard VW part. Am going to be calling the Katmandu VW dealer but want to have some information to hand as I don't think they have any T25s here.

Many thanks
Martin

If you can't find one out there - there is always the possibility of having it relined - some of these out of the way places have some very ingenious mechanics (they have to be!).

Brickwerks has the same clutch for all diesels 215mm
http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/shop?page=s ... ord=clutch

Etos says:
068 198 141 DX is the clutch set of three parts

or individually

068 141 025 DX is the pressure plate
068 141 035 PX Clutch plate
Looks like release bearing is the same for them all

Sorry for not including the engine type, it is a 1.6td. I believe I have posted somewhere else it was a 1.6, (which is what I thought I bought) but turns out it was a TD.

It isn't a syncro.

thanks for all replies :)

If it was a Syncro you wouldnt have had the engine bashed,

There is loads of stuff on them to protect vital bits.

yes I know that now. Turns out the standard is quite underprotected in the vital bits and also sits low ready to scrape any and everything :(

Turns out nothing can be done and will have to order the clutch from brickwerks and get it sent (ouch to international shipping rates :( ). Am off to to Tibet / China next so need to have it all in tip-top shape.
