Changing clockset mileage

Post by jexps »

Hi

I recently bought a second hand clockset which has done 400000 miles while my camper has only done 200000 miles. How do i go about changing the mileage?

A partial strip of the speedo head to take the drive out of mesh in order to turn the 'big numbers' backwards....not as easy as it sounds but doable.

Remember that VOSA keep mileage on record and a new owner can see any mileage anomolies by visiting their website (obviously you won't tempted to take those numbers down further)
Fitting a second hand speedo is certainly not illegal in itself but false representation is, so even if you were to take it back to 100K, as long as the new owner was told (with details of when it was changed and the mileage at that point) you would not be breaking any laws (you need to be very clear in your representation of the vehicle though)

Is that just going back to 2005 when MOT's went computerised? I've always assumed my van has been around the clock once but I've no way of knowing if it's only once
