Oil burning JX1.6TD
Hi, I'm seeking some help. There's a JX 1.6TD engine in my Westfalia van which was burning oil rapidly and losing coolant (112,000 mls). I took it to the local garage who rebuilt the head, did the injectors and pump. It still smoked and burnt oil but no longer coolant. They took it back and told me it was the turbo, which did look knackered so they replaced that with no labour charge. It still smoked (grey smoke) and burnt oil (top to bottom of dipstick markings in about 150mls) so they took it back, replaced the piston rings which were all choked up and worn and the big end bearings all free of charge. It now doesn't smoke but its gone from top mark to bottom on the dipstick in 160mls. Is there anything left? There is no sign of leakage of oil when standing or running and I don't know what to suggest to them or do about it. Pete

Re: Oil burning JX1.6TD
Pete, I have a very similar issue.... I have an '86 jx 1.6 td and haven't one many miles at all since buying her last year. The previous owner warned me of it burning oil and said it was down to the turbo gasket?? I am just about to give it a full service so will ask them to check it out......
