broke down on way to cony ** new engine needed**

Post by lloydy »

Bugger!
Engine seemed down on power, and didn't seem to idle very well.
As the journey went on, got worse and worse. Down to 40mph on the motorway. Seems like I have no oil? AA on the way, will check oil when engine cools. Oil was ok last week, so a bit strange but do have a fair amount of oil around where dipstick joins engine.
Hopefully something easy, and will be on my way asap

Pull the dipstick and see if it's blowing oil out.

If your oil is ok get the fuel filter, unscrew it and tap it out on the road. Screw it back on and you might be ok... It happened to me once, I couldnt get above 40mph when i got on the motor way, it was just a blocked fuel filter. Easy fix when you do it on the drive, ask the AA man.

Cough! and that's significant to oil issues? Not.

On the low loader now. It has one leaking injector, and its knocking. Got a fresh oil leak on the oil return pipe on turbo
Was a bit smokey too. Will try fuel filter when I get home.
Oil issue was my original thought cuz of leak on pipe. Checked oils level when engine cooled and it was still ok

That should fuel the fire this evening,
Sure it's not a leaky overflow pipe coombined with high oil pressure?

Really annoyed, so want to be there. Leak on the oil return pipe worries me, cuz that is new. Dripped through the bash plate within minutes of pulling up, then stopped.
Where is the overflow pipe?
Will check fuel filter, and will probably have to get injector tested somehow

Oh dear must be the curse of the multivan kitchen unit :run be careful removing the injectors just broke the head on the pickup this afternoon replacing a the flametraps  some idiot had put them in with a breaker bar judging by the torque on them  just not my weekend .

check your breather pipe as might be blocked or jubilee clip overtightned and constricted the pipe thus the increase the pressure which may explain the oil leaks especially on the new joins, will go for the easiest routes. If one injector is gone it will knock

Definitely an injector, so a new set will have be found/old ones refurbed. Oil leak wise, got a decent but not terrible leak either end of the turbo oil return pipe, so a new one of those is needed. Also seem like most of the oil has come from the dipstick tube, where it joins engine, so new washer and o ring will be needed.

Numpty question, but where is the breather pipe? As it does seem strange that these two problems have happened at same time. Can an injector problem cause an oil issue? Due to poor running? (stupid question i know)

Thanks to jed for popping over :ok

Oil breather runs from top of the rocker cover on black satelite thingy to air intake from the air filter also from the block to the satellite worth ckecking DON'T over tighten the circlips as compresses the hose and no breathing could be the case of new oil leaks I know only to well  good luck with it
My wifes coming in more ways than one! and she'll cook me breakfast
Guess that didn't happen eh next time eh  hopefully see you at syncropendence or in June if you fancy coming over here ? Will try and sort out transporting the dreaded multivan kitchen unit to you :ok

Just had a quick look at all that, looks ok and in quite good nick, but will probably stick some engine flush stuff in before i drain the oil
