mot coming up next week and noticed number plate lights both out. Changed both the bulbs but no joy. Are they connected to one of the rear lenses or do they run back to fuse box? Bit short on time so would appreciate a pointer before I get too carried away. Led strips going on if its too much grief

These lamp fixtures get really corroded and you may just need to take some sandpaper to the electrodes(contacts). Putting a little dielectic grease to those contact before you put the bilbs back in, will make sure that they won't corrode again.
The lic. plate lamps are connected to the left side of the vans' lighting wire harness. These lights should be connected to the parking lamps.
If you have a multimeter or a light tester, it would be a big help to make sure that these wires are getting power.
