Unbelievable. The weekly ''What oil?'' thread is now twice weekly. :)

i wanted to ask this question yesterday but i knew i would get this response,

i used 10x-40 mineral oil from tesco but after reading the wiki im not sure this was the best oil to use, i think it is ok though for the summer, i think some idiot put synthetic in it last time as it has suddenly got lots of oil leaks since it was serviced. i only topped it up yesterday as i couldnt get the sump bolt off to drain the oil and i didnt want to try to hard and risk rounding it off,

is 10w-40 mineral ok for an Aircooled cu this time of year?

thats a question not answered in the wiki. :D

get the bolt off mate and replace it
Give your engine a twice yearly change once with a filter.

use 15w/40 mineral it will give a good spread over the temp range.

if you cant get the drain plug out, you can empty it by taking the strainer plate off .......

dont try and change the oil or undo the drain plug ( sump bung) on a cold engine, it should have been up operating temp and allowed to cool a little .... its a steel plug in a ally block......

oil change should be by miles, not calendar.......

I used to use Castrol GTX until I was advised to move over to Morris oil for my air cooled T2. Both seemed to work fine.

As stated, covered to death on here. Please refer to WIKI as most questions covered in there. We don't need any more "what oil" threads - must be well over 100 already. Cheers.

I hope you didn't mix mineral with synthetic? As adding mineral to synthetic oils destroys the characteristics of the oil.

i think some idiot put synthetic in it last time.
i only topped it up yesterday

My advice would be 20/50 halfords classic oil. Relatively inexpensive and mine has been running well on it all over europe!
