Carburettor
The pierburg carburettor on my 86 camper van has done 175k miles and appears to be worn out I am getting approx 8m to gallon out of it. So I want to replace it with a second hand one from a breakers yard. Does anybody know what will fit

Put your location in your profile (click user control panel) then people know where you are and can maybe point you in a helpful direction

Re: Carburettor
Have you checked your part load enrichment diaphram valve? just a thought as 8m to a Gallon may mean you have a petrol leak which has been known to happen when the diaphram splits.
Just worth a look!

Re: Carburettor
Is the choke coming off once the engine is warmed up? If its running on choke all the time MPG will be poor.

Having removed the air filter it would appear that the choke is sticking on, I played about with the choke valve and eventually it came off but not sure whether it is faulty is there anything that can be checked or renewed before I use it again.

Re: Carburettor
the choke flap will gradually open as the engine warms.. about 5 mins and it should be almost fully open.
It is operated by a bi metal spring inside the housing attached to the carb.
check it's not broken
and check that the springs that keep it in check are all attached.
The choke pull down unit opens the flap when the accelerator is pressed.
the flap should not fully close over the venturi there should be a 3mm gap.
