Glad to see I'm not the only one to be thinking along these lines! You are slightly ahead of me though, which is good as I can pick your brains! I've got the top box, about the same size as yours, I'm having the roof rails made (cheaper than buying!), I'm waiting for my heavy duty gas struts from the US to be delivered, and I need to buy the roof bars. So a little way off yet!
The thoughts I'd had though were.....what kind of weight can you put in the roof box before it runs the risk of damaging the pop top? This goes for when it's down & up. I'm looking at putting the awning, chairs etc. Also, how have you worked out access to get things from the top box? Like you we have a bike rack so can't put a ladder on the back. I have seen some clever ally ladders that fold into one small long strip that could be tied onto the roof bars, but otherwise I can't figure it out.
right where do i start to answer your qestions.looks like youve got a westy , should be able to get westy brakets easy,
roof bars min 150 cm needed, depends on what sort off thule feet you decide on.
ive not up graded my roof sturuts as yet , so just gona use 2x4 proped up inside off the roof.
re carryiny stuff iam only using for lightweight stuff, chairs, tables ,sleeping bags etc, etc.the rhino roof tube is for my caravanstore awing , flag poles , wind break, .
re access for roof box ive got the one that opens out to the side ive fitted, now iam a short a***, so iam gona use my paulchin bike rack , which i can attach to the side of me van, or get one off the little three step stools. i use to have a back ladder , but a 80-90 member ( rozzo ) got it . so iam lookin for a ladder as well. and yes u can fit them with a bike rack on the back aswell.
i,ll take more picts off the roof box open and the roof elevated. call me if you need futher imformation.
thank you, neil
