Fuel cut off solenoid

Help needed, went to release the nut holding the connector for the fuel cut off solenoid and managed to break it completely, the nut did not budge, the whole top part just came away . Any idea where to get this part ie. part number, name cost etc.... am so peeved with myself now, am having a bad couple of days with the van lately !!!!!!!!!! Cold weather doesn't help!

Is this engine and pump the same as the MK1 golf by any chance?

Hi Tommin,first have a look at the "wiki"[top of the page on the left-next to "club 80-90"]scroll down to "injection pump".If you remove the stop solenoid you should be able to remove the fuel cut off valve/plunger,re fit the solenoid and the engine should run ok,you will have to stall the engine to stop it,[all this as a temporary fix ].

I knew this was the right forum, so many helpful people around, almost puts my faith back in society, almost i said!!!!

Any how regarding my fuel crisis am currently in, i understand since now am replacing the solenoid, i will change the fuel filter and line to pump, i will need to bleed the system. Forgive my numptiness but can someone point me in the right direction. Where is the bleed nipple on the pump? I found the one on the fuel filter. Anywhere else i should bleed etc except my on blood that is

To bleed Loosen an injector and crank engine for a few seconds, tighten injector.
Solenoid is here if you need it.

Okay, shop had the solenoid, so happy for that, bought and fitted a new fuel filter and reverse light sensor.

Now the crunch part, and as per norm for me, it's a true and good crunch!!!!!!!!!

I still cannot start the engine. Now before everyone goes on about this and that, let me say i followed everyones advice as given, but no joy, engine just will not light up.

The problem as i see it so far is there is no fuel pulling through. I checked the fuel filter bleed screw, nothing! I loosened an injector, nothing. I even siphoned the fuel line to rule out any blockage, well i can tell you diesel is not the best tasting juice

So where am i going wrong guys????????????????????? big time!

Is it the diesel pump? Is there a fuel pump, or is it a siphon thing???????? so many Q's but really need some help to rectify this!

Did your van start before you broke the shut off solenoid?
Check battery is fully charged, check glowplugs are working, check starter motor cranking fast enough, check main glowplug fuse strip in black box, check your new solenoid is working ( you can hear a click when power is supplied to it).
They can sometimes take a while to start again. Did you fill new fuel filter with diesel?
You could still have an air lock.

Yeah it was running fine. I think i am starting to understand how it all works (hopefully). I hear and tested the new solenoid clicking, put the heavy duty leisure battery on it (100Amps), changed all fuses, checked black box also in engine bay. The only thing not done was to fill new fuel filter, and reading other forums (sorry) not filling the pump (still not sure how to on that one). Will try again tomorrow. Thanks for the advise and help.

Noooooo do not put the leisure batt on dude you will knacker it (the batt not the van)

1. Crack off top bleed on fuel filter
2. Turn over till furl comes out
3. Crack a injector pipe at injector end
4. Turn over till neat fuel comes put of cracked pipe
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the other 3 injectors
6. Van should start if all is well

If not check
Glow plugs
Glow plug buzz bar
Glow plug relay
Enough batt voltage
Power is getting to your fuel cut off solenoid
Stater earths and vehicle earths are good
Not necessarily in that order

If it's none of them come back

Okay the good news is we managed to start her, runs smoothly no air in system. The bad news and there is always a but in these cases, i had to remove the solenoid inners (spring and pin thingy mejig). It would not start with it in, but of course now can stop unless do a stall? Does this mean the solenoid is kaput even though it is new? I renewed it's slectric connector and tested, we do get power there!

What is going on I have no idea, hopefully someone can point us in the right direction. HELP!

Yes the cable to the fuel cut off should only have 12v going to it when the ignition is on.
