The "artilliary" style wheels look rather french in origin to me, might be a mid-1930's Citroen military project as they were known for very original engineering solutions (unlike the latest crop of non-entity buzz-boxes)

The US is also rather fond of that style of wheel on wagons, to this day.

It's a new one on me - and I'm <understatement>a bit of</understatement> a Citroen anorak.
Citroen were still mucking about with the Kegresse half-tracks in the late '20s, and that pic doesn't "feel" much later than that to me. By the '30s, Citroen didn't seem particularly militarily inclined. Can't think why...

You may very well think that, I couldn't possibly comment...

Re: ? Anyone ?
The front set of wheels remind me of the rollers fitted to some WWII half tracks to help them across ditches, etc. The rear end drives, the front wheels hang in the air and the roller runs up the bank face instead of the bumper digging in.
I've been thinkling that might be useful on the long front overhang of the syncro!?

Seat belts!! ..... on a bus chassis there's no where to bolt them to! Health & Safety ...what's that
I was one of them men scooting around Guildford
a bolt on metal frame, one old padded seat, hang on to the steering wheel and press the
go pedal ........ and try not to lock them front brakes!!!!!!!
Don't think they ever made any 4x4's tho.

Now there's an idea.... 10" mini wheels on each bumper corner you say?

Re: ? Anyone ?
I was thinking more of a central roller as per the photo here:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M3_Half-track" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but I guess wheels might work as well.
