Lambda Sensor

Post by barch0 »

Hi All

I've been running my Multivan for a few weeks without the lambda sensor connected. Vans run nicely, for most part. I've had to disconnect the battery a few times, to reset the ECU as its been racing, or at start up in the morning running at 3000rpm! So disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes resets to factory I'm told. I've noticed on a run that it does pull a little, especially at around 70mph, and a couple of times its stalled. Just died completely at lights, or a roundabout, both the last times were after the van had been running for a good hour and a half.

Would replacing the lambda sensor have any bearing on this? Was going to do it anyway as I think I'll get a few miles per gallon more but would an absent sensor be causing the stalling and slight missing issue I have?

cheers
Ian

If you have an MV (or orginally an MV) that would have the lambda probe then yes.. the system doesnt like it and runs in a default mode, uses more fuel and doesnt run quite as nice..

You need to check what engine code you have and what ECU you have also..

But poor running can be put down to a lot of other items, a full service and set up might help also...

Not sure what engine it is, will check but will definitely replace lambda sensor. Service? Its been regularly serviced so don think that is too much of an issue

I bought mine from Sutton Auto Factors SAF who are a motor factors in the Midlands....just make sure it's a decent brand like BOSCH/NCK/Beru etc not some cheap copy, I've heard Thompson are a notorious brand to avoid)
Mine was an NCK (NGK) at about £46.00 (NCK is part of NGK, known for spark plugs)
