Devon camper electrics
Hi all,
I have just got round to looking at my campers electrics. It is a 1980 Devon. The previous owner didn't use the cmapers fridge or sink water pump and has cut any wires from the battery. So I have to re-wire the thing. Are there any brochures or wiring diagrams for the Devon out there?
There is a white box behind the drivers seat. At a guess this is the wiring from the battery to the fridge/sink. Any advice as to what this is would be welcomed. (As you can tell I'm an electrical novice)!
Thanks
Paul.

Re: Devon camper electrics
does it have a leisure battery under the passenger seat?
If not you will make things easier if you have
then you can begin the re wire

Re: Devon camper electrics
Hi Paul,
I'm also looking at my wiring, I bought my Devon last year and it has some wiring from leisure battery but I havent got round to replacing it yet.
I have the white box you mentioned it sounds all very familiar
At the moment I have a leisure battery connected to a some dodgy looking clips, this provides power to the water pump and 3 lights. The cable runs into a hole at the bottom of the passenger seat battery box and comes out through the opposite hole in the drivers seat battery box, from there it goes into the 'white' box. God only knows where it goes from there...but I plan to take it all out and replace as it over 30 years old and I doubt it fused properly or safe. I also have a 3-way fridge which I run on gas but i suppose this may also be connected to the leisure battery.
Sorry I sound very vague, happy to take any photos if it would help
Regards,
Nick

Re: Devon camper electrics
my electrics are apart at the moment - I'll take a pic at lunch time may be of some use........may not!
the white box is a switch which I BELEIVE switches the power from leisure to normla battery when ignition is turned off.
I also bought my van off of someone who took the leisure battery and appropriate wiring out?? !!
cheers
matt

The little white box behind the drivers seat is the relay that kicks in when you start your engine, it will run the original 2 way fridge off your battery under the drivers seat, only while the engine is running, then when you park up, its on with the gas to power the fridge.

Re: Devon camper electrics
Hi all,
Just realised that I didn't thankyou for your replies...
Thanks all.
Wha tI did in the end was set up a leisure baterry in the cupboard behind the drivers seat (It is a basic Devon without a frdge). There is a split charger and all the camping electricals (sink, cool box & lights) now go through the leisure battery.
Ta,
Paul.

Hi Mike,
Sorry for the late reply.... I've got three hives at my parents house in York which give great honey but not so popular with the neigbours. and six hives at Flaxton near York which is a nice isolated site in the country but the honey is not so good.... Oil seed rape mainly. The van is good for shifting heavy hives!

Re: Devon camper electrics
Somewhere I have the original wiring diagram supplied with my Devon. Unfortunately I dont have a scanner. The set up is very simple. There was a red wire to the car battery and a black earth that supply the system. The white box contains the relay for the fridge. A wire goes from the coil to the fridge switch. There is an earth and a green wire that goes to the relay. When the coil is on, and the switch in the on position, the green wire activates the relay, and power is supplied to the fridge, via a yellow wire. On mine I extended the red wire to the leisure battery. I then fitted a split charge relay and suitable fuses etc under the drivers seat. Its all pretty straight forward. The only other stuff are the interior lights and the pump.
