Hi all yet another problem discovered an oil leak, ist that bad in respects to amount of oil but certainly enough to want to get it sorted if i can.
I have put in 20/50 Mineral oil to see if that helps where as before i was running on 15/40 Mineral
Basically just wanted to see if anyone may be able to give me more insight into what needs tightening or whether its a gasket failure before i attack the bolts underneath (potential fo making it worse maybe), Please.
Thank you

Hard to tell where it's coming from really. Common leaks are sump washer, oil filler tube, dipstick tube, oil pump gasket and front/rear crankshaft oil seals. My advice would be to wipe it all clean and then park it over some clean card and run the engine for a while and see where it drips.
Just hope it's not the front (flywheel end) oil seal.

The rear one is behind the crankshaft pulley ... i.e. the one that drives the water pump and alternator and the other is behind the flywheel ... hence why you DON'T want it to be that one (gearbox out, flywheel off etc etc)
On a more serious note I've seen you dispencing plenty of advice to others yet you don't know where a crankshaft seal is ??

Hi Ian thanks
Iv cleaned and run engine so far havent seen any leaks will keep eye on things....
Back to serious note... i have only dispensed advise regarding carburrettor as i have had so many problems with this since owning my van that i feel i know a litte about it (well adleast to know the basic functions and potential problems that can occur, iv read Haynes carb manual and learnt off of people on here and ultimatelly had to deal with multiple problems surrounding the carb).
Flywheel, Crank shaft seal .... i admit was new to me, thats why my username is Novice in need
Please note i tend to try to only give advice if i know what im talking about and am more than happy to keep shut on matters i do not know about.
Always thankfull for anyones help

Have a look at the bottom of the bellhousing, where it meets the engine, also inside the flywheel access hole top left of the engine when viewed from behind ... see if there's any sign of oil there. The leak may be one place and as you drive it's blown towards to back of the van. Do you replace the sump plug washer every time ?

Ok il give it another inspection around the bellhousing, Sump plug washer i have not changed as i have not changed the oil yet since owning the van (6mths). I know its not good as a god service should be carried out after purchase, however i just havent got round to it as iv been busy trying to keep her on the road.
last night my sliding door fell of its runners and now im having to try and deal with this (joys of VW ownership )
Il get to oil change this week whilst im repairing door

Hi yep thats right sad again... rather over used emotive i feel.
The oil leak i have re inspected and it is definatelly from the rear of the engine (not from flywheel area adleast)
Just cant seem to find where exactly, in the pictures i posted there is a silver block looking item at the top of pic, the oil leak seems to be coming from up around that area.
Just wondered if anyone may have some pics diagrams or extremelly good discriptive skills to help me out please!!!
Thanks

I could eat my dinner off that engine. It would take me about 5 hours to clean the accumulated crud on the underside of my engine and I would emerge looking like Al Johnson
That is so true, im probably better off getting a bus pass!
I sourced a seal from GSF as they are only down the road and to be honest there is a fair bit of difference in the price especially since im saving postage cost.
I know that Brickwerks and Heritage products are supposed to be better quality its just £14.00 or £4.50 is my dilema (ok im a little cheap aswell) hoping it will not be such a vast difference?
