constand drip of coolant?

Post by sam fodda »

i seem to have a constant drip of what seems to be coolant under my engine bay, on a 1988 t25 1.9 water cooled. the van hasent been driven since sept 2010, it only a very small amount but cant see where its coming from, all hoses etc inside engine bay seem dry and tight?

Not until you find out where it's coming from. It may not neccessarily be from the bottom of the engine. It may be dripping down from somewhere higher. Have you checked everywhere.

Park it overnight with a piece of cardboard under it (weight it so it won't blow away). Then in the morning the wet patch will give you the approx area of the drip. Then get under with a a torch and don't stop until you find it. :ok

I have had this happening to me for the past two years. With so many connections it could be coming from anywhere. My small drip comes from around the rad connection. I just top up about every thousand miles or so and do not worry about it. It would be good for you to at least find the source.

Yep. they called me, they've tried to order them for a year. still cant source them.

Ive sourced them in two places..

gowesty.com in the USA
serial-kombi.com in Europe somewhere....

Im going to try to bodge it, one of the bolts isnt tightening up, just turns...so was thinking of a longer bolt + nut and see what happens...

In which case it's the main body that's at fault not the cap.

The captive nut's in the lower part of the flange (lovely word FLANGE  )

Cheers mate, very decent of you to offer. :ok My neighbours having a fiddle with the bus at the moment and hes a scoobie nut and has lots of bits and bobs in his garage...

The problem we have is that thebrass fitting that the bolt screws into is turning, so we will need to drill out the offending item first.
