Do you mean the vertical bit that goes up inside the b pillar? if so then 16g /3mm is fine, caqn go to 5mm makes no odds you really do need to have something going up there as this takes most of the load,
As your doing such a magic job and persevering pm me your addy and I will knock one up in the morning and post it to you so you will have it for the weekend.

Up till now ive been jacking my van on the front jacking point. Blissfully unaware that the reinforcement plate had dissolved. Bearing in mind the sill is rotten and the crossmember is also shot .
It makes you wonder where the load from the jacking point is being transfered to?

Think you maybe ought to start a thread on your own van as this might end up hijacking fidgets
And what makes you think Id touch yours! with my welder
mike

Hi james, heres whats in the post as we speak,
As you said your welder might not be up to the over the top ones on mine I made a pair in 14g (1.2mm - 1/16") which will be more than enough, they are longer than needed so shorten as you require, if you keep some length in them then nick the sides were the inside of the B pillar curves.
sit the jack in the hole and place the reinforcing piece so that when welded there is a bit of clearance.

'The best welder in Wigan' took a look today. He seemed really keen on helping me get the bus solid by the end of summer. Mike advised me to tackle the sill, sliding door and rear quarter first. Take a look at the terrible job the previous owner did on the rear quarter. password is- jonnyb
The bloke said he would repair the inner sill, front jacking point and bottom of B pillar (which I have the part) all for £80.
He then said he will come back to replace the new rear quarter and repair my sliding door. He seemed confident he could do all the work on the bus and invited me to look at some of his classic cars he has. He specialises in them.
Have you decided to go a head with the inner sill then?

Yes mate Im cracking on with the sill . Should have the remainder of the old sill off this weekend and make a start repairing the B-post base and jacking point .
Just hope the weather holds out
