dont know if its an actual spot as such but on the road between ventnor and freshwater there are loads of little viewpoints where you can pull in to have a brew and look out to see , we stopped at one last week just taking the van out for a good long run and said how nice it would be to just stay there for the night (kids were at home!!), again if you go up on the downs between sandown and arreton there are several similar areas, i cant see that you would be doing any harm stopping in them - although ive never seen anyone parked up in them overnight , sorry cant be anymore help, i'll have an ask around at work tomorow !!

Thanks for the reply! Does the IOW have areas of countryside – quiet roads/woods – that sort of thing?

hi mate

yeah 80% of the island is of a rural nature - anything west of newport is pretty quiet countryside and should have loads of places you can find, i dont know whether the woodland areas are privately owned but there are literally hundreds of little quiet roads all over the island so should be no shortage of spots , the east side of the island newport, ryde, cowes, sandown, shanklin etc is a bit more built (about 80% of population live on the east of the island) up but still loads of countryside in surrounding areas, as per my last reply there are bundles of viewpoint carparks all over the island with some stunnign views i cant believe that anyone ever comes along at night to check on them or anything especially this time of year when the island is very quiet. Im taking my van up to the garage on saturday and the guy there is a vw fanatic and is island born and bred so im sure he will be able to provide some more specific locations for you, i'll update then
