PETROL CAP BREATHER??

Hi,

I read somewhere on another thread that the cause of 'kangarooing' or fuel starvation could be caused by the breather in the petrol cap being blocked. on the inside of my petrol cap is says 'NON VENTED'....Could this be part of the problem? I don't know if this is the correct cap as it came with the van when I bought it, but I'm reluctant to spend £25 on a new cap if this is ok.

Currently struggling big time to fit a new petrol tank (from GSF). It won't fit flush on the driver's side, plus, I had to grind the old bolts off as they were totally rusted on, now I can't get new bolts to tighten up as you can't get a spanner to the top bolt/nut as there isn't the room!!!

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like a non original fuel cap, try using a plastic stop gap one, the ones you get in the garage when you loose the original one, that will breathe and then if that helps you can source a good used genuine one for security, they can be retumbled to suit your key.

Hi,

You're replacing the original tank because it was rsuting and leaky, and the breathers were perished. On that basis I'd be amazed if your tank was forming a vacuum - air would be sucked in all over. Sounds like the cap was about the only bit not letting in air.

Good luck getting the tank fitted, once its in the fun of diagnosing your kangarooing can really begin!!

if it is the filler cap, when undoing it it will suck in air ,if it aint then its not the cap!

I have just fitted one to my van and i know the shear enjoyment you must also be going through....My advise with the problem with putting it back on is i welded 2 nuts on the chassis so when the tank goes back in you dont need a spanner. If you dont have access to a welder then i sudgest using some kind of liquid steel to hold it in place until you nip it up.

With getting the tank up into its home. I used a car jack as it is a tight fit and i didn't have an assistant.

Make sure your tank is clean inside before fitting it as i forgot to check and had no end of problems this week and got the joy of doing it all over again this weekend!
