Getting taught/shown the basics of welding will do NO harm whatsoever.the thinner and more iffy the metal you are trying to weld the harder it is and the more experience you will need , Some jobs I wouldnt even attempt with a mig but for the sake of this discussion then get learning and go from thewre,
Whereabouts sre you any way

I live in Wigan. Currently got my van wrapped in a tarp on the side/back garden. Its sheltered reasonably well too, just need to get a car port type thing to allow quicker and easier access.

Hoping to have a run to a place in Southport to look at a few more vans this week. Just to get a proper idea of how everything should work and look like.

Can you or anyone suggest places nearish me that would help with my project?

Or maybe Mike, are you interested in a fully expenses paid trip to sunny Wigan to work on my van?

Reet then I will drag it up to you

Went to a casino in Leeds once, ive got a mate that lives there. (not in the casino)

Is it what you do for a living then Mike?
Think I will aim to get the door fixed first. Could you tell from my pics if it was defo the early type?

looks early to me, rear of door where the lock catch is, is that and the corresponding pillar flat or angled. (picky) flat is early angle later

Think I know what you mean, however, I have taken note and will look properly soon.

Will update soon once I get started. Got a few numbers for some local welders (one is apparently 'the best welder in Wigan')

Cheers for the help, Jon.
